My approach to quoting on web development
Flat quote or hourly rate … What suits you?
I can assist you in determining how best to approach your project. My aim is that there are minimal surprises for you or me.
Hourly rate
My hourly rate is very competitive when you consider my skills and experience. An hourly rate is ideal for a range of jobs - for instance, small maintenance jobs, jobs that have unclear boundaries.
A schedule of fees is available on request.
Flat quote
Flat quotes make up the bulk of my work. I provide a detailed quote, outlining the boundaries of the project, suggesting what approaches might be taken, costing all proposals and proposing a timeframe for completion.
The client has the benefit of some certainty in the costs involved. If the project is changed by the client after a quote has been provided, the quote will need to be adjusted.
Flat quotes are generally prepared at no charge to the client. The exception would be where a quote requires significant research, and a charge is agreed on beforehand for preparation of quote.
You can trust that I will give you a quote that can be relied on - meeting cost and time expectations. When you contract me, I do the work.
A copy of web development contract will be provided along with the flat quote.
once the quote has been accepted
Once a quote has been accepted and contract signed, a 25% deposit is due.
The next step will vary depending on the nature of the project
If a project has tight boundaries that are clearly established - for instance, in building a small site component where language/libraries to be used are established, graphics and wireframes prepared - it might just be a matter of getting on with it.
Alternatively, if a project involves developing a site from scratch there will be many steps in the procedure including:
- guiding the client in establishing site aims and content areas
- establishing a site architecture
- preparing design and functional documentation as required
- preparing wireframes
- preparing design templates
- sign off of design templates
- build and cross browser & platform testing
- approval of functional site
- content population, OR client to populate if CMS based project
- upload of live site
The exact steps will vary depending on the scale and budget of the project. Exact steps and documentation provided for the project will be established in the initial quote.
Unless otherwise agreed, a further 40% is due on signing off of design templates, and balance due on site completion, but prior to uploading live site.
Payments may be made via BSB transfer, cheque or Paypal.
